Dr. Fred Girod has been leader that we have known and a friend that we have trusted for decades. He was born and raised in the Santiam Canyon and currently lives on the North Santiam River with his wife, Lori.

After graduating from Stayton High School, Dr. Girod went on to earn a bachelors degree from Oregon State University. He proudly sports his Beaver colors at the Legislature. Dr. Girod studied dentistry at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland and received a masters in public administration from Harvard University. He has been a practicing dentist for over 25 years.

Dr. Girod served in the Oregon House of Representatives from 1993-1994 where he chaired the House Rules Committee and served on the House Revenue Committee. As a strong believer in bipartisanship, Dr. Girod was one of just a few Republicans to join Democrats in voting to form the Oregon Health Plan.

Dr. Girod has also served on the Stayton City Council and the Stayton Budget Committee.

In 2006, Dr. Girod was elected to the Oregon House for a second term by a wide margin. During the 2007 session, Representative Girod served on the House Consumer Protection Committee, House Workforce & Economic Development Committee, and as Vice-Chair of the House Government Accountability & Information Technology Committee.

In 2008, Dr. Girod was appointed to fill a vacancy for the State Senate, District 9. Senator Girod served in the 2008 Special Session on the Senate Judiciary Committee and as Vice-Chair of the Senate Environment and Natural Resources Committee. Dr. Girod was re-elected in Nov. 2008.

Dr. Girod currently serves as Co Vice-Chair of the committee on Ways & Means. He is also a member of the Ways & Means subcommittee on Natural Resources. He also serves as Vice-Chair for two additional committees: General Government / Emergency Preparedness, and Campaign Finance.

In addition to serving as a State Senator, Dr. Girod is a real estate investor, and previously had a dental practice in Stayton.
